Two pictures of the bend in the Irwell near the Cliff in 2010

Towards the bend in the River Irwell on Kersal Dale.

A beautiful view of the Irwell and Kersal Dale in Summer.

A picture of notable landmark named "German Joe" by the locasl. This was located at the side of the Irwell on the Dale about 300 metres up from the Kersal Bridge. Local legend amongst children was this marked the spot where a German plane was shot down in World War II. In fact nobody is quite sure what it is. The best guess is that it is a distance or boundary marker. If you know email kersalflats@hotmail.co.uk

An older shot of the bend in the Irwell from 1944.

Three shots of the bend in the River Irwell on Kersal Dale towards the Cliff. This area is now almost impossible to photograph due to the increased number of trees and the deep mudbanks at the side of the river. The latter are particularly soft and muddy after a flood as I found out in February 2008!

A fisherman early morning on the bend in the Irwell near the cliff in 2009. Thanks to Harry Davies.

An old picture of the bend in the River Irwell.

Two pictures from the bend in the Irwell back towards the flats (2010).
