The Park

A series of pictures devoted to the park on Kersal Flats.

If you would like a larger, higher quality copy of any of these pictures email kersalflats@hotmail.co.uk

An early picture of the park taken some time in the late 1960s. You can see the full accompaniment of equipment, most of which would now be considered to be dangerous and illegal! On the right is a picture of the park in 1980 looking rather empty and spartan.

The park and Kersal footbridge in 1976.

The park in the mid 1970s full of people and activity.

A great picture of the slide on the park in the early 1970s. In the background is a very detailed picture of the back of the shops and the garages we used to play on. From Gail Smith.

Paul Bird and family on the park in the late 1970s or very early 1980s. This is the most detailed picture of the park that I have ever seen. You can see the old benches, the swings, the peeling blue paint on the slide, and that dangerous old fence! A brilliant slice of a Kersal childhood. Roll your mouse over the image for the same spot in March 2009.

Graham Smethurst, Michaela Kenyon, Carl Kenyon, and Diane Wrigley on the park in the early to mid 1970s

A cracking picture of Geraldine and Christine Mallon enjoying the slide on Kersal Flats in 1976.

Stella Rawson on her bike in front of the park in the 1960s. In the background you can see a very busy slide. Roll your mouse over the image to show the same spot 40 or more years later in 2009
